Bringing Our Science to Life at AAD 2022
After two years of virtual meetings, we’re back!
Last month, the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health team was on-the-ground in Boston, Massachusetts for the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) annual meeting—the largest dermatology conference in the world—bringing together the brightest and most innovative minds in skin health.
We’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to be back at AAD this year to highlight our skin health science—and the scientists—behind it, like Julie Bianchini, our very own Neutrogena scientist who, lucky for us, filmed her journey to the conference.
As a company, we’ve been attending and presenting at AAD for more than 20 years. Still, each year presents an unforgettable experience, and the unique opportunity for our scientists to engage with their peers from across the globe to discuss the latest research and trends within the skin health industry.
While this year’s event was hosted in-person, many people still tuned in from home, so for those not able to make it, here’s a roundup of what we did.
Our Unique Science Fair & Interactive Booth Experience
What better way to learn about our skin science than hearing from the faces behind it? This year, ahead of the official start of AAD, we hosted a one-of-a-kind science fair at the world-famous Fenway Park with interactive experiences tied to skin health concerns of the everyday consumer, including acne and aging.
The interactive experience featured hands-on demonstrations such as retinol trivia played on a mini baseball field; 3-D visualizations like a balloon display to show our Neutrogena polymeric cleanser technology; and more—kicking off the conference and creatively displaying the innovative skin science behind our products.
To bring all our AAD activities together, we also hosted an immersive booth experience during the conference, showcasing our skin science at a level we haven’t done before, bringing the research we’ve conducted over the past year to life in an immersive and memorable way.
Don’t believe us? Just watch.
Spotlighting Our New Skin Health Research
At this year’s AAD meeting, the Johnson & Johnson Consumer Health team presented 11 posters highlighting our scientific solutions for healthier skin.
From the treatment of skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, to evaluating how mental stress impacts skin integrity, to a cutting-edge study using 3D modeling to look at external factors impacting skin–our new skin health research demonstrates our commitment to innovating beyond the visible layer, and taking an integrated approach to advancing and promoting skin health.
Conferences are always an exciting time for our scientists to present new research, but what many may not know is that scientific presentations are only a portion of what takes place during the four-day conference. Take a glimpse into a day in the life of one of our scientists at AAD.
Reinforcing Our Commitment to Diversity
Just like our commitment to diverse clinical research, we’re also committed to inclusivity beyond the lab. So, in collaboration with AAD and the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson, we announced the launch of the “Pathways: Inclusivity in Dermatology” program at the conference. This collaborative effort aims to increase the number of practicing dermatologists who are underrepresented minorities (URM) in medicine over the next five years.
We’re so proud to be part of this important initiative. Learn more about it, here.
